Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 July 2026

The Sauna Map ("we", "us", "our") is an independently run, non-commercial directory of saunas across Ireland. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Who is responsible for your data

The Sauna Map is operated by an individual based in Ireland. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact: irishsaunadirectory@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Account data: if you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your email address and basic profile information to create and secure your account.
  • Content you submit: reviews, check-ins, favorites, and sauna submissions you choose to add, linked to your account.
  • Technical data: basic request logs (e.g. IP address, browser type) generated automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and reliability.

We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and we do not sell your data.

Why we process it (legal basis)

  • Contract: to create your account and let you use features like favorites, reviews, and submissions.
  • Legitimate interest: to keep the site secure and working correctly.
  • Consent: for optional, non-essential cookies (see our Cookie Policy).

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers (data processors) to run the site, including our authentication provider (Clerk) and our hosting/database provider. These providers only process data on our instructions and are contractually required to protect it. We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.

How long we keep it

We retain account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to remove your data, we will delete or anonymise it within a reasonable time, unless we're required to keep it longer by law.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) or your local supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, email irishsaunadirectory@gmail.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted on this page with an updated date.

This page is provided as a general template and does not constitute legal advice. If The Sauna Map grows or starts processing more sensitive data, we recommend a qualified professional review this policy for full GDPR/ePrivacy compliance.
